Umpleby Groundworks is a Yorkshire-based contractor focused on commercial site work and plant hire. We work with builders, developers and main contractors on groundworks packages, enabling works and earthworks — delivering formation, foundations, drainage and hardstanding to programme so the next trade can follow on.
Plant hire on our own fleet
We run excavators from 1.7 tonne mini diggers through to 21 tonne machines, alongside dozers, dumpers and supporting site plant. That means we can resource commercial jobs properly — operated hire with experienced groundworks operators, or self-drive where it suits your site — without relying on last-minute third-party machines.
Built on plant heritage
The business grew from Umpleby Plant Hire, a Yorkshire plant operation with decades of experience across earthworks, agriculture and rural infrastructure. That foundation — knowing machines, knowing the ground, knowing how to deliver — is what we bring to every commercial package and every day of plant hire.
How we work on site
Commercial groundworks is a programme business. Developers and builders need the ground ready on time so the next trade can start. We turn up when we say we will, work to the drawings or agreed specification, keep communication clear, and leave every site ready for what comes next.
Residential still available

Based in Morley, Leeds, we deliver across Yorkshire and the North — Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Harrogate, York and beyond. Larger contracts taken on application.
